Company-size-based licensing

Our licenses are based on one clear metric only: the size of the company that owns the license, measured by total number of employees. Company-size–based licensing is designed to be fair and transparent for everyone. Smaller studios and independent designers can access our typefaces at an affordable rate, while larger companies, who typically use fonts across broader teams, products, and platforms, contribute proportionally more. To illustrate how it works, we prepared a simple graphic overview for you.

We know that font licensing can sometimes feel complex and confusing. That’s why we’ve simplified it into two clear options! The Standard License covers desktop use and apps. It is the most affordable option in our shop. After purchase, you will receive the font in OTF and TTF formats. The Extended License covers all media and allows unrestricted use. After purchasing the Extended License, you will receive OTF, TTF, WOFF, and WOFF2 formats. Below is a simple comparison to help you understand what each license allows.

Who owns the license

We believe that fair compensation is essential for creative professionals. Graphic designers should be payment for their creative work, and type designers for the years spent crafting fonts. Typically, typefaces are purchased by designers for their clients. However, we recommend that designers pass the responsibility of font purchases to their clients. It's essential for clients to select the appropriate license type based on their company size, which includes the total number of full-time and part-time employees. Once the purchase is made, the client becomes the License Owner. This ensures clarity about ownership and that the license covers all uses for the project across various teams, platforms, and media.

In the cart, we have added a special option that allows designers to share the cart with the client so they can complete the payment.

For personal projects or studio-owned work, designers can buy the license themselves, in which case the designer will be the License Owner. If you, as a designer, are working with a small client (for example, a team of 1–3 people) and you are responsible for purchasing the license, please consider including font licensing costs in your budget. This will help ensure that the client has a clear understanding that the font license is part of the overall project scope.
